Bard of Lake Town by Shockbolt Bard of Lake Town by Shockbolt
According to the book "Lords of Middle-Earth: Vol II - The mannish races" , this is what is said about Bard:

"Bard was a quiet, grim Northman Warrior from Lake town (Esgaroth) When the dragon Smaug attacked his porthome, he rallied the townsmen and slew the Fire-drake with a well-placed bowshot.
He later led the Northmen of the Long Lake area in the Battle of Five Armies outside the Lonely Mountain. After the victory, he used his portion of the Dragon's hoard to rebuild the ruined town of Dale, the home of his ancestor Girion.
Thus, Bard became the First King of the Second Line"

Far too little fan art of Bard. Also an obscene lack of art depicting Tolkien's characters interacting with animals. You included both so hats off to your work! :)

well, quite nice, arms and shoulders' position is quite right, but why doesn't he even touch the string to pull it out? his fingers are beside the string, while they should be directly on it. painted as here it seems that the bow is pulled by some magic power and not the man who holds it.) looks sooo funny =)

Being an archer myself, I can relate. He just released his arrow, and the arm is about to be drawn backwards :)

Arrow! Black arrow! I have saved you to the last. You have never failed me and always I have recovered you. I had you from my father and he from of old. If ever you came from the forges of the true king under the Mountain, go now and speed well!

You said to ask permission to use your art for any reason. I am taking a Lord of the Rings class and for a project I need a picture of Bard, Smaug and Bilbo. You have the best Bard picture I have seen. May I use it for a non-commercial use in a presentation?

Amazing, again =o I love how he seems to have no fear about standing right next to a fire while shooting his black arrow. Oh, and there's the little thrush! Awesome job =D
Bye-bye Smaug~

You know, it's always nice seeing LOTR art. But seeing QUALITY Lotr art .... it's something else. You're absolutely amazing. I can hardly compare your works to any LOTR works I've seen- and trust me, I've seen a lot while managing the club :) You're miles ahead of the competition and Im damn proud that you took the time to submit these to the club !

Absolutely gorgeous! It's wonderful to see interpretations of Bard.

My only critique would be that he should be holding the string back; the way you hold an arrow is with three fingers, two around the arrow and string, the third (ring finger, iirc) around the string only. But really, it looks simply wonderful.

I agree with You on the three fingers, but I would also like to point out that I myself use two fingers every now and then when firing my medieval bow and arrows :)

Great! The fire is amazing, brilliant work.

Never *really* liked Bard, partially because he killed one of my favourite LOTR characters (Smaug the Magnificent), and partially because he felt a little bit like Tolkien just brought him in at the end to fix the problem and end the book quickly.

That said, I absolutely love The Hobbit, and I absolutely love this picture :D

Yeah. Seemed like "Hmm, the book's getting a bit long.. I'll just bring in an 'invincible hero' character to end it quickly" :P
