This is an illustration done for this weeks friendly art challenge over at [link] , topic being "ending it all" The story behind it is as follows:
A highly skilled ninja is demanded by his master to assassinate the child of a rivalling lord.
The ninja, old and weary, cannot make himself to do this. And he does not want to go against his Master. He has sent countless souls to their awaiting judgment in the afterlife, but an innocent child...
So he climbs the highest mountain, to get as close to his Gods as he can, before uttering his silent prayers. Hoping he was heard, the ninja drives his sword into his body and silently slips into the afterlife.
I wanted to portray this but still maintaining a peaceful, tranquil feeling over it, even though it shows a suicide.
Painted in several layers, no reference used, spent an evening on this one. Photoshop and a wacom intuos 3 tablet used.
As for using this image, refer to my rules in my journal here: [link]
Amazingly beautiful. I love how you've got such warm colors for such a tragic scene. And the cherry blossoms just add that extra bit of tranquility to it. Totally faved~

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
