ME weaponry - Gurthangby *Shockbolt

"Gurthang is the name of the reforged sword Anglachel. Anglachel was re-forged by the expert smithies at Nargothrond, and was renamed by its new keeper, Túrin, to Gurthang, which means Iron of Death, or Wand of Death"

Taking an artistic liberty, I added to the blades story:

"When the blade was reforged into Gurthang, Túrin added a perfectly shaped heart to it's pommel in honor of Beleg. To make sure Túrin never forgot what he had done to Beleg, he made the smiths add 6 golden thorns to the grip, large enough to draw drops of blood from his hand as he held the sword in battle."

Painted during a few hours today, several layers, no reference used.

Photoshop & wacom tablet used.

Cool looking sword but the hilt is a bit short for a hand. Great design and look.

Only thing that could be improved, I think, is that the grip looks a bit short. Like you couldn't really fit your hand on it to hold it properly. Other than that, looks like a great rendition of one of the first and greatest black blades.

I based the grip on old viking swords, their grips tend to fit just one hand.

I see that, yes, but from my perspective it looks like that grip's too short to even fit one hand. Like if I tried to, the bottom of my hand would be covering the pommel. I'm not an expert on sword construction, but my brother has a replica viking sword and the handle looked a little bit longer than what I'm seeing here.

No disrespect to your work, you understand, I'm a big fan.

Yeah, I just found myself recalling a comic I read here once about proper etiquette between artist and critic, which I can't seem to find now for some reason, so I can't actually link to it for a better explanation, but I wanna try very hard not to be the kind of asshole critic who insults someone's work because I personally take issue with something in it. It used rabbits to make it's point, I do remember that.

No problem. I got a large collection of weaponry here myself, and medieval helmets, armor, even a large collection of united cutlery replicas of the swords, helmets, shields and whatnot from the lotr movies. I even create armor/weaponry/medieval clothing/banners etc myself, so I feel confident this sword concept is solid

But thanks for commenting, and I don't take that as an insult. What might trick your perception is the oversized guard and the fact that the blade itself is a broadsword. I imagined the elven longsword was reforged to fit the hand and bodysize of a dwarf, which is why the blade was shortened and the grip,guard and pommel reforged.
