Silvan elves of Mirkwoodby *Shockbolt

Started this one yesterday, finished today.

Silvan elves patrolling the outer edges of the dark Mirkwood, keeping the orcs and other nasties at bay.

I started this painting with a single feeling, of a cold early winter day, cloudy and the wet snow has just started to freeze a bit.

I love the trees. In an odd paradox, they're vivid and bright, yet at the same time they're dark and gloomy, just like the forest to which they belong. Like a Van Gogh painting with an aura reminiscent of Edgar Alan Poe. Great job!

Despite hundreds of pages of descriptions tryin gto prove that elves are indeed magical and nearest divine within their native greenery, there are still some who are mis-born with a rotten case of luck, an Elven Clutz, if you will, and in this poor fellow's case he is quite lucky that ONLY two of his brethren were present to see him make a Snow Elngel.

Hey man! Nice work on portraying Middle Earth... again! If you'll permit though, why draw what looks like the Gondor crest onto their vests? (The white tree with stars over it)

I'd say it's coincidence, I was thinking of the Silvan elves as tree-huggers and tree-worshippers and I whipped together this crest, that might be mistaken for the crest of Gondor. I'm not out to start any conspiracy theories about who's behind the birth of Gondor or the political influences between them and the elves *shakes head*
